Oral presentations- tips and tricks!

I know that some of you are nervous about oral presentations and that is why you need to practice a lot and learn how to do it! Being able to present different topics in front of an audience is a skill that will help you handle different situations in life such as job interviews! 

Tips and tricks! 

1. Watch the video and take notes! 

What do you need to think about before you have your presentation? 


2. Tips on what NOT to do! 




3.  Think about: 
Prepare well:
  • Research the topic well and make sure you understand it. Having a clear structure for your presentation helps both you and the audience.
Practice a lot:
  • Rehearse your presentation multiple times to improve your flow and confidence. Practice in front of a mirror or with someone else.

Use visuals:

  • Add images or videos to your slides to make your presentation more engaging and to clarify complex ideas.

Be mindful of body language:

  • Maintain eye contact, avoid crossing your arms, and stand with good posture to convey confidence.

It is normal to feel nervous:

  • Take deep breaths if needed. Think about holding your hands still, and making eye contact with the audience.

Before we start watching we need to take a look at the picture below. You will also get a paper copy in class. 

You will learn the concepts: 

Ethos is a speaker’s ability to build credibility, establish himself/herself as an expert, and/or convince the audience members that the speaker has their best interests at heart. 
Pathos is an appeal to emotions in order to sway an audience.
Logos:  is the use of data/evidence to prove one’s case.


While watching answer the questions in the picture and also think about what we learned from the first film about HAIL.

The Seven Deadly Sins When Speaking!

The next few weeks you will learn how to make a speech. 

We will start by watching two Ted Talks. The first is:  "How to speak so people want to listen" . In the film you will find some words you need to understand before we start watching:

Love

How to write a speech

Before we start writing we need to find out how to write a speech:

First of all, watch the film A Magic of Three:




Then watch A FOREST:






At last watch Donald Trump and try to identify if he uses any of the techniques you saw in the films.
