Today is our last lesson!

We are going to work with poetry!
You can choose between two different ways of writing a poem:
1. Haiku
2. Sensory Emotion poem

Read the instructions and then choose which one you would like to write!

HAIKU

The Haiku below is inspired by Erin Lane.

A Haiku is a Japanese poem that does not rhyme.
 It is a poem that describes something in nature.
Haiku poems have three lines, with a certain number of syllables in each line.
Line 1 = 5 syllables
Line 2 = 7 syllables
Line 3 = 5 syllables

Example:

The Ocean 
Beautiful ocean
Roaring waves crash down on me
Floating in the foam

The Beach 

Sand scatters the beach
Waves crash on the sandy shore
Blue water shimmers




First, think of a topic about nature. Think about the things that you have seen outside. Close your eyes and picture a moment outside and everything around you. Below, write down what you see and hear.
What in nature are you describing? ____________________________
Write down what you ‘see’ and ‘hear’: ____________________________ ___________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________

Finally, fit it into three lines with the right amount of syllables:

Final writing assignment

You are now going to write a personal narrative of what you have been through. Everything is over and you are now safe. You are writing this to tell your story to people who haven’t been there.

These are the big events you need to include in your personal narrative:
Give the reader your personal background and tell the reader about your superpower (think about what you wrote in your letter)

·         When all the adults disappeared

·         When the water disappeared

·         When the spiders attacked

  How you used your superpower

·         Another thing that happened (You can come up with anything you’d like)

You are going to write this in the past tense, (dåtid). Consider using linking words, correct grammar and a varied language. If you want to, use the new words you learned in the text about the spiders. When you write make sure you include your feelings and emotions, as well as sensory details. This is what will make the story into your own. How did you perceive the events? Exaggerate if you’d like. You have all interpreted the events differently so you will all have different versions of the story.You need to write at least 2 A4 pages, handwritten. You will get 2 full lessons to complete this assignment. It will be graded. You may only use a dictionary. Hand in your phones!

Last time was a disaster... The Spiders ruined everything!

1. Read the text together. Underline words you don't know and look them up. You need the words later!

2.. In your groups, you need to discuss how you can use your different superpowers to survive and re-build society again.
Use the iPad and record your discussions. Upload it on my Youtube channel.

3. When you have finished talking you need to prepare your final writing assignment.  Help each other in the groups to come up with ideas to write about. But, remember on Tuesday you need to write individually.

Leader groups!

Today you need to be in charge of the other groups!

Tell the groups which their responsibilites are and what they need to do .

You need to tell the groups that they get 5 minutes to quickly come up with ideas together in the groups and create a mind-map.

Then they get 20 minutes to finish writing. They need to describe HOW their area of activity will work. Who will do what and how will it be arranged? If they don't hand in their written descriptions on time you may change their area of activity to something else ... something nasty...!

The discussions need to be in English. You need to walk around and help the other groups with both ideas and to remind them that they need to speak English .

After 30 minutes you need to gather the groups and control if they are finished.

The group that has written the best Plan of Action needs to get their prize and motivation.

The last part of the lesson we, the teachers, will be in charge again!

What is a plan of action? 

An action plan is a tool in social planning. It is an organizational strategy to identify necessary steps towards a goal. It considers details, may help limit setting for an organization, and is efficient in that it is saving resources over trial and error. 
 Firstly, you will need to outline what you want to achieve from the project, by doing this you set yourself targets. After this the specific roles will need to be allocated ensuring sufficient amount of training, resources and issues have been considered to ensure solving any problems that may occur. The next stage allows members of the group to analyse the progress by outlining milestones, solving any issues and making any necessary changes. Lastly once the project has come to an end the final stage can be examined to ensure future success.<sup>[

In your plan of action you need to be specific. 
If you come up with a solution of the problem you need to figure
 out where and how to store the water. 
You need to think of how to prevent diseases spread by the water
You need to think of how to re-use the water so that it is not wasted again 
Think outside the box! 

The best plan of action will be rewarded! 
Hand in 1/2 to 1 A4 page, size 12 when the lesson today is finished.

Gone - Who should be our leader?

Today you need to vote! We need two leader groups.
Watch the speeches. First of all, work individually and write down the good qualties of the speeches. Then talk to your group members and decide, which two groups that are the best.

Someone has wasted all the water..

There is no water. No water at all. Anywhere.

What would happen to earth if there was no water at all?

You need to solve the problem in any way you want. Be smart! Co-operate with other groups! Super-powers?

Task: You need to write a plan of action on how to solve this problem. Minimum 1/2 A4 page, size 12.

The best plan of action will be rewarded!  

Leader task: 
The two leader groups write a plan of action on what needs to be done to keep society going without adults.
You have to specify which tasks that need to be done and what groups that  will be suitable for each task.
When you have finished writing you have to get together and come to an agreement on what needs to be done and combine your plan of actions.

Chaos! We need a leader!

1.       Society is in chaos. Everyone above 15 is gone...

2.       We need a leader. You need to create a mindmap of what makes a good leader. Discuss in English - What qualities do you need to be a good leader. Create your mind-map and then take a picture of it. Save the picture and publish your mind-map on the blog Never Give Up. Talk to your teacher if you need help.

3.       We need to vote for two groups to lead us. What qualities does your group have? What are your strengths and superpowers? Why should we choose you? Make a list!

4.       You are going to write a speech together and record it. Write your text together in shared Google docs. Share your documents with us as well: sarasv74@gmail.com, mathildahomework@gmail.com, mariaekelund2@gmail.com 

Remember to speak - not read! 

Your speech may be played in the classroom - be aware. You will get two lessons to complete and record your speech.

All the teachers were gone... how did you react?

Last time was special! You realised that all your English teachers were gone...
1. What happened in the classroom when you found out?
2. How did your group react and why? Write your answers in Padlet. Click on the link and then in the Padlet just double click anywhere to start writing.
3. Read the text GONE again. Read the text aloud and together in your groups.
4. Compare the reactions of your group to the students in the text. Can you find any similarities?
5. Which are the main characters and how are they described in the text? Underline the information that you find in the text. Be prepared to tell another group what you have found.
6. The groups tell each other what they have written and talked about. Two groups get together and tell each other:

Group 1- 5 will be in Sara's classroom, 111
1 and 2, 3 and 4 Group 5 will be with group 14 in 112.

6 and 7, 8 and 9

Task: What do we do now the adults have disappeared?

In your groups you need to introduce your characters. Who are you? What are your superpowers? Everyone over the age of 15 is gone. Think about how your own daily life would be affected if all the adults are gone. What would you do? How would you react?

1.You need to talk about this and record your discussions.

2. Take a group picture and use Imovie for your discussions.

3.  When you are finished leave you Ipad in Sara’s classroom.

4. If you are finished read chapter one again together and make sure you understand it.

What is your superpower?

Something unexpected is going to happen at your school. You don't know what!

Today you need to create a character that can survive in an unexpected environment. Your character needs to be between 12-15 and you will need a superpower.

Who are you? Create your character.

Answer the questions below by writing a letter. Use the questions and the picture below to help you. Remember to write a text. You need to write maximum one A4- page in the present tense.

We don't want you to answer the questions one by one.

On Tuesday and Friday next week you are going to write an essay. 

1. Choose one of the characters: Raaven, Assad or Ali.

2. Write a PERSONAL NARRATIVE text from the character's point of view.

Write the last chapter/s of the book. Choose a suitable headline. 

Write at least two A4 pages. We won't have any computers so you need to use papers and pencils and nothing else. I don't want you to use your phones or dictionaries.

Who killed Santa? 

When I came to the classroom this morning I found Santa. Dead. I cried and said to myself: "What will now happen to Christmas? I need to find out who killed Santa. "

1. You will be given a character and first of all are you going to draw it. What do you look like? Pay attention to details.
2. You must now interview at least 3 other characters and find out:
 - their names?
- what was their relationship to Santa?
- where were they at the time of the murder?
- did they have any possessions on them at the time of the murder?

3. If you bribe your teacher you might get a clue! Nice words, candy...!

3. In 5 lines you must decide who you think the murder is and how Santa was killed.

There will be prize for the correct answer!

Först och främst måste ni bli klara med skrivuppgiften vi påbörjade förra gången. Lämna in när ni är klara och kolla så att ni har namn på. Lägg uppsatsen i den GULA mappen. OBS! INGA HJÄLPMEDEL. Lägg fram era telefoner. Bara papper och penna!

9B är klara med sin feedback till er. Leta upp din text i mappen. Läs igenom den feedback du fått av 9B. Gå igenom din text och förbättra den. Du kan börja idag om det finns dator ledig. Annars får du renskriva den hemma.

När ovanstående är klart fortsätter du med följande:

1. Välj ETT ord ur det inledande kapitlet s. 2-3 som du tycker är det viktigaste ordet att kunna för att förstå innehållet ur dessa sidor. 

Därefter vill jag att ni skriver in det ordet i http://visuwords.com/  Genom Visuwords kan ni se hur ord hänger ihop med varandra och även deras betydelse. 

2. Välj 20 ord ur texten som du inte kan. Skriv in dessa i vår gemensamma Quizlet . 

3. Till fredag nästa vecka vill jag att du har lärt dig minst 20 nya ord genom att antingen använda Visuwords eller Quizlet.  Inloggning till Quizlet ligger på katedern.

You are going to start reading a book called The Same Stars. It is written by Gail Davidson - Bladh.
We will work a lot with vocabulary.
For Friday, please, read the first 40 pages. Then go to the blog: Never Give Up and answer two questions:
1. When you read the head line, what do you think the book will be about? Answer as a blog comment.
2. Choose 10 words that you can find in the text.
Find a least two synonyms to each word. Write down the sentence with the original word in it. Write your sentences as a blog comment in Never Give Up.
Write the same sentence again, BUT change the word you have chosen and now use the synonym instead. What happened with the text?
